Beaded Notebooks

I needed to write a couple notes today in a notebook and found these little beaded beauties from long ago. They were cut from larger notebooks but you can easily use a full size notebook.

If you want to make one, just unwind the spring coil from a notebook and add beads as you put the spring back on the pages.  Don’t fill each coil all the way with beads or the covers won’t be able to open fully.  Add a few rounds of beads and test how the notebook opens before completing the beading.

Red Vine

From the kitchen window, the neighbor’s field was lit with sunset yellow past my shady backyard. I walked to the back of the property to get a better picture of the shade-framed yellows and found that the view wasn’t as nice as from my kitchen window. I looked up to discover the sun lit up one spot in the dark corner – a red vine twined around the old tree, aglow in the sunset. If I had stayed in my kitchen, I never would have seen the flame.

After she leaves, my three year old granddaughter usually leaves a path of sparkle for me to clean up. ‘Tis the pleasantest of chores.

Capturing Sunlight

The sun barely enters our north-facing house most of the year, but from October to March, we get a little bit more.
The afternoon rays passed by my desk too swiftly today so I balanced a book on the edge to extend the desk. Then I hung a little plastic chandelier ornament to capture the light for as long as possible.  A glass chandelier would splash splinters of sun everywhere but I’m content with my little plastic ornament until I get a glass one made.

Sparkling Perspective

Sparkle is all about perspective… the point of view… how you observe the situation.

On first glance, the usual angle, the observation with least effort, the situation might look dire. The flower is wilted, the petals are bug-eaten, the flower is ravaged with age.

But if you take the effort to look at something from a new point of view, the entire scene changes. Then you might catch a glimpse of the sparkle.

Observed from a different angle, kneeling and low, looking up to the light, the flower becomes a piece of fragile pink lace, with flecks of sun caught in the folds.

Hello world!

Where once there was nothing, now this blog has appeared. In the vast universe of internet words, may this blog be as a single sparkling drop of dew on a leaf, a single shining bead strung on a silver chain, a crystal word spoken in a silent mind.

I am glad you are here.
