Such Pretty Things is one of my favorite websites because it has such pretty things! Jessica Enig truly does find the coolest stuff in luscious shades of aqua and pink.

According to her bio on her website:
“Hello and welcome to Such Pretty Things! My name is Jessica Enig and this is my blog. I am a designer, wife, and mother of two beautiful daughters. I truly love all things vintage, floral, pastel and pretty. And I am just crazy for almost every aspect of design – from interior design, styling, and photography to party-planning, floral arranging and baking. I am also a major collector (hoarder?) of vintage textiles, wallpapers from the 1930’s and 1940’s, millinery flowers, vintage ribbon, and Toleware. You should also probably know that I am “slightly” obsessed with Shabby Chic, Target, HomeGoods and Anthropologie. :-)”

Jessica has a shop, Such Pretty Things filled with a splendid array of vintage and new craft supplies, home decor, party goods, cookie sprinkles and more. I just love the sugary goodness of it all.

Not too long ago, I entered a drawing Jessica sponsored and won a box of such pretty things. What a surprise! The vintage millinery flowers are just gorgeous and the pale pink sequins, ribbons, flower brooch and sparkly butterfly inspire me to make something pretty.

A beautiful package from Such Pretty Things arrived the other day.

What a sweet note tucked into the package!

A delightful assortment of vintage millinery flowers, velvet, satin and sheer ribbon, pale pink sequins and gems and a glittery butterfly from Such Pretty Things.

A Big thank you to Jessica for sharing her love of pretty things through her blog.
Jessica, you’re the sweetest!

My computer desktop is usually littered with an unmanageable mess of icons. I painted a bunch of 4″ x 6″ cards for an e-course I’m taking and decided to photograph the cards to make a Desktop Background icon sorter before finishing the cards. Click on the photo to see larger image. Feel free to save it and use as wallpaper.

We are so very proud of our son, Nathanael Monroe, for his first CD, Mnemoniker, by SoundsofNCM. It just debuted over the weekend and it is wonderful! We are thrilled! He is a very gifted composer and God has blessed him with so much musical talent. Here is the blurb from his album:

SoundsofNCM is a 21-year old electronic composer who incorporates aspects of many different electronic styles into his music, pulling from prolific dubstep, liquid D&B, and 8-bit elements, and tying them together in a unique blend.

I love listening to his music while working on my art. You can find the album online here.

The Box

27 Wednesday Jun 2012

I finally bought the board, drew the pattern and cut out the pieces. My old Dremel scroll saw was just as crummy as ever and I had to wrestle the board at an angle through the blade just to cut a semi-straight line. So there were a couple gaps in the joints when I glued the box together. But now that I’ve got all the pieces together and drew the carving pattern, and found the pearls, I’m starting to envision the end product. I’ll post later as it progresses.

Supplies for the box include vintage lace, an old broken brooch, vintage beads and my carving pattern.

That’s what’s keeping me busy the past week or so. The event is Friday night. 85 people, 7 different Southern Desserts, over 500 individual mini servings. I’ll post when I can after the event. But I want you, my dear readers, to know that I haven’t abandoned you. I’ll be back and I will have photographs.

I just love Amy Atlas‘s design style! Her party tables are a feast of deliciousness, both to eat and to look at. I’m looking forward to her new book, Sweet Designs, debuting soon. Her recent Scavenger hunt was a lot of fun and I discovered new websites along the way. Now I just need some excuses to host a party!

For God’s enjoyment

Charlotte & Jonathan, Charlotte and Jonathan, God, God's enjoyment, inspirational, music

I am deeply moved by something God taught me and want to share it.

Last night, I was up late working on my “Princess’s One Thousand Gifts” journal and was painting little flowers with various colors of pink on the back of my journal to find a color match. As I rinsed the little paint brush, I thought “I don’t think I’m being useful enough right now.” Painting little pink flowers on a book cover suddenly seemed so trivial, especially compared to my friends’ boasts of their large good deeds.

While I was drying the brush, God interrupted my thoughts with this question. God asked me:
“So which songbird should I kill just because it sings only for my enjoyment?”

wow.

I dropped my brush and bowed my head and tears slipped down my cheeks. Every songbird is beautiful. The ones deep in the forest, the ones perched in a tree in Africa, the ones singing in an Amazon jungle, still an undiscovered species.

A chill ran through my spine as I pondered the depth of that statement. EVERY single person is valuable to God, especially the ones who live just for God’s enjoyment, the ones that praise God while painting little pink flowers on the back of a journal late at night.

Last night I decided that I would know God wanted me to share this if I was able to photograph a songbird to go with the post. I loaded up my big telephoto lens on the camera and told God “Please don’t let me miss the song. I want to recognize it and be ready!”

Today I kept the door open a crack all day, just in case I heard a bird to photograph. There was none. So I didn’t post. Until now. Just by chance, I listened to a singer online. What a voice! Again, a chill ran through my spine at the sheer beauty and I praised God. After I closed the link, God said this: “That is a songbird for my enjoyment.”
This is the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsNlcr4frs4 Opera duo Charlotte & Jonathan.

God answered my prayer. I didn’t miss it.

Please bear with me as I learn more about blogging. There is so much I want to do here but haven’t figured it all out yet. There are a lot of wonderful blogs out there and I have a list of blogs and links I check regularly and want to share but I haven’t figured out how to add them to the side of this page yet. Links, tutorials, thumbnail galleries… Hopefully I’ll grasp it all soon. Thank you so much for your patience!

Projects!

07 Monday Nov 2011

Oh my goodness, I’ve got more projects going than can fit in one lifetime!  Whole notebooks of ideas and a filing cabinet of files.  0_0  Probably enough for at least several brand lines, numerous book series, inventions and more.

I’m sure I’m not the only person with this many leads. How do others reach completion? I’d love to hear how you all prioritize creative pursuits.
